I’m not certain how many people actually know about this upcoming KEANU film, but it’s coming in June of 2016, starring Nia Long, Keegan-Michael Key, Method Man, Will Forte and even Gabrielle Union. This is the first I’d run into it, but it’s a comedy that contains some of my favorite super talent.
About the movie – it’s all about a cat rescue, and it’s the rescuers who are posing as drug dealers for a street gang just to get the job done. Before you scratch your head, remind yourselves that it is an American comedy so whatever works will work. Gabrielle Union is on board, and she’s funny in real life (to me) it seems, thus, a piece of cake for her. Method Man has a little bit of acting in his back pocket, but I haven’t seen Keegan-Michael many places which is great because I get to “bond to the movie” so to speak instead of seeing the faces I’m accustomed to seeing.
Other than that, Nia Long has always been a veteran in my eyes ever since Love Jones. She’s gone on to perform in various roles, including comedies, which I want to believe she enjoys very much being that she’s had roles in Are We There Yet? (Done Yet) & Big Momma’s House. As far as her other roles, she is also extremely versatile which adds to why I like watching her work (she acts like I write – variety). There hasn’t been too many roles that she simply didn’t do well, from Boiler Room to the movie we all know and love – THE BEST MAN.
This is why I’ve become curious about KEANU. There is a great mixture of personalities to make the movie come together well. Another star of the movie that I can’t quite place is Will Forte, but I found out why. He has been a voice in some of my favorite animated movies such as The Lego Movie and Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2, thus, I didn’t connect with his face. Atop that, Forte has done much on TV (so I know for sure he’s got the goods to make us cheese) and I’m more MOVIE.
Besides all that, the unpredictability is what makes this movie a strong watch. It’s never been done so far as I know, and that makes it just that special.
